Anesthesia is a very important element in surgeries. Thanks to this, the patient does not feel pain during the procedure. For this same reason, many people fear it, unaware of its function and benefit.
Next, I present the different types of anesthesia that exist and what use each one has:
Local anesthesia: removes sensation from a small part of the body. It is commonly used in less complex surgeries, such as removal of moles or dental interventions.
Regional anesthesia: removes the sensitivity of one or more parts of the body. This can be of different types:
Trunk: some nerve is anesthetized.
Neuroaxial: removes the pain impulse through the spinal cord. This can be via epidural or intradural.
General Anesthesia: The patient is given hypnotic drugs to produce a state of sleep and loss of consciousness. The patient is intubated, so the Anesthesiologist has complete control over any situation that could occur during the procedure, and therefore, very safe for you.
It is important that you always know everything related to the surgery that is going to be performed, including what anesthesia will be used in your procedure
